APOLLO3D · RETAIL CASE STUDY

Primark:
digitised store by store.

350+ stores. One digital twin platform. Zero guesswork.

From a single pilot store in Leeds to a pan-European rollout, we've helped Primark's infrastructure teams see every store before they ever set foot in it - cutting survey time, travel and risk across one of Europe's largest retail estates.

THE PROJECT

A digital twin for every store

What started as a pilot scan of a single Leeds city-centre store in late 2021 has grown into a pan-European programme spanning 350+ Primark stores. Every store is captured as a complete, walkable 3D digital twin - giving infrastructure, design and facilities teams instant access to accurate, up-to-date models of every floor, fixture and corner.

That access removes the need for a physical visit before major decisions are made. Teams have used the digital twins to plan LED lighting upgrades, brief contractors on Click & Collect and self-checkout installations, and reconfigure departments - all without the travel, disruption or delay of an in-person survey.

"Our exciting work with Primark highlights how immersive digital technology is redefining the retail landscape."

ON SITE

Capturing stores without disrupting them

Scans are carried out efficiently and around trading hours, so every level, fixture and piece of signage is captured in full - including the detail teams need for lighting and fit-out decisions - without getting in the way of the store.

THE OUTPUT

Explore every store without leaving your desk

Each scan becomes a fully navigable 3D digital twin — a complete, measurable model of the store that infrastructure and facilities teams can walk through, floor by floor, from anywhere.

ACROSS THE ESTATE

One process, every format

From flagship city-centre stores to shopping-centre units across the UK and Europe, the same capture process scales to any format - giving Primark one consistent standard of digital record across the whole estate.

Having instant access to virtual models of the stores gave us the insight we needed to plan with confidence.

Partnering with Apollo3D has transformed the way we approach major infrastructure programmes.

It significantly reduced the need for travel and physical surveys, creating a more environmentally sound approach.

WHAT IT SUPPORTED

Built for real infrastructure decisions

LED Lighting Upgrades

Teams planned store-wide LED upgrades directly from the digital twin, without a site visit to assess existing fittings.

Click & Collect Installs

New desks were briefed and positioned in advance using accurate, measurable models of each store's layout.

Self-Checkout Rollout

Self-service checkout zones were designed and signed off remotely across dozens of stores at once.

Department Reconfigurations

Beauty, home and other department layouts were tested and refined against the real store, before any works began.

Remote Facilities Management

Ongoing FM and refurbishment planning now runs from the digital twin first, cutting unnecessary contractor visits.

A More Sustainable Process

Fewer flights and journeys between stores and head office, with less physical survey work overall.
